Are You Ready to Share My Couch?

June 13th, 2008

What if I told you that you could travel anywhere in the World, and never book a hotel room again? You could just sleep on someones couch? Well, it’s a little more deeper than that.

There is a web site called couchserfing.com It’s a social networking site that allows travelers from all over the world to share cultural experiences with others in different contries. Haven’t you ever said “I want to know how the other half lives”? Well, here’s your chance….litterally.

CouchSurfing is not about the furniture, not just about finding free accommodations around the world; it’s about making connections worldwide…We create deep and meaningful connections that cross oceans, continents and cultures. CouchSurfing wants to change not only the way we travel, but how we relate to the world!

Here is an example: You decide you want to spend two weeks traveling around Europe. You get a ticket arriving in Amsterdam and departing from Florence. You log on to CouchSurfing.com and do a search for members within 20 km/miles of Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, Zurich and Florence- your new travel itinerary. You contact interesting prospects from the list and explain the sort of travel/stay you’re interested in. Use the “Request to CouchSurf with…” button to include specific details. The person picks you up from the Airport, BOOM, you have a place to stay, and meet someone new.

Is it safe? They verify you thru your name, address, and the information you detail in your profile.

we have our vouching and verification systems. Some of these are new technologies invented by the CouchSurfing founders.

Way back when, my friend Curbob, did a trip to Ohio using the Couchserfing system. Of course back then, it was really thru a chat room, and ultimately led to him being banned from Ohio. However, he did get to travel for next to nothing.

Go to thier Stats page and see how many people are using couchserfing.com It’s pretty amazing. I’m signing up for it, and would use it in a heart beat.
