The 40 Mile Hike (Day 2)

February 27th, 2008

Woke up last night and it was bitterly cold. The temps got down to lower 20’s. Some of us had to put our water bottles in our sleeping bag to prevent them from freezing. I had on a long sleeve shirt, a wind breaker, a fleece, and a rain jacket. I slept in a 20 degree sleeping bag, and froze my ass off.

Made some breakfast, and started packing my pack. It was going to be a long day, have to do 13 or so miles to the next shelter. Started on the trail around 8:30 AM. It was a nice hike coming out of Stover Creek. It also felt like it was going to be a warmer day. The sun was out. I wanted to see “Long Creek Falls” off a side trail.

Long Creek Falls

Found Long Creek Falls after hiking another trail for about a mile. It was really nice, but I was worried about doing the extra mile. I have a blister on my left foot, and my toes are killing me.

Long day of hiking. I got turned around and thought I had missed a trail that leads to the shelter. Had to double back, only to find out I was on the right trail and was just impatient. I got to the camp site at 5:00 PM. Alot of up and down hiking. The climbs today were a bitch. Tough, tough climbs. The wind is blowing behind the shelter, so I’m sleeping in the Shelter tonight. To tired to pitch my tent.
