A Big Rock in a Small Town

February 16th, 2008

It was 67 degrees out today. It was great to be driving around in a short sleeve shirt. Good day. Got a chance to see something really cool. A huge rock that comes right out of the ground that stands 1,400 feet above sea level. It’s called (click on the link to see a pic) Stone Mountain, and it’s just a great big rock. No trees, just a big rock. It sits in the middle of a town. Pretty funny actually.

My friend Rich and I climbed the sucker all the way to the top. There is a tram ride that can take you back and forth from the top, but we decided to take the trail up. There were a lot of people climbing today. The whole “rock” is surrounded by a park, and the community all gets together for special laser shows in the summer against the rock. There is a carving on the side from the same guy who carved Mount Rushmore. Pretty cool.

Leaving tomorrow for the Mountains.
