Another Sensless Crime

As you have probably read by now, this community faces yet another sensless crime, although this time nobody was hurt. Theresa Hicks of East Peoria, was driving on I-74 Monday night, when a window of her van was shattered by an object flung off an Interstate 74 overpass. This is the second time this has happened in just a few months. The first time Katrina Kelley was killed by some kid (who know sit’s in jail) who threw a brick on to I-74 from an overpass.
I know Theresa quite well, her Mother who is on fixed income, rents from me in East Peoria. Thresa has a lot on her plate with going to school, taking care of kids, and taking care of her Mom. This was the last thing she needed. I’m just glad she is ok.
So, I guess since this is the second time this has happened, does the idea of putting up some kind of survailance on some of these overpasses make sense? Does it have to be a $35,000 dollar camera? Or a simple commercial grade weather camera that can hook up into a video dump location, i.e the Peoria Police Department? Now that this is the second time, I think we need to take a hard look at the safety of I-74 motorist who depend on this Highway to jet across town. I would also imagine that there should be some funds available from the State of Illinois for this. This is to important to call this an “isolated incident”.
