Most Popular Blog in Peoria?
May 25th, 2007
When I volunteered to help my firends Charlie and Billy (the owners of BG Karaoke Saloon in Bartonville) put up a web site for thier “Bartonville Idol” the first thing I thought of was a blog site. I called my best friend Richard Curry of Tek-Works and asked if Word Press could be used for a interactive site and create something different than normally seen out there in the blogosphere.
We started putting idea’s together on how we could profile each contestant, and combine that with an online voting system and the availability to have the public anywhere in the world join in the competition. Now, ask Charlie and Billy about that idea, and they probabably would have said. Umm, yea ok, Scott take your medication now.
It took a few weeks to make graphics and put a format together, but we had a plan. We had a meeting with Wolf 104.9 (they are the major sponsor of the contest) and pitched the idea of an online voting site with people at the bar itself being able to vote. See BG Karaoke Saloon has WiFi. Why not use it? Everyone in the bar after the contest can vote right there. Then go home and vote one time.
Ok, there is a summary of why, and what Richard (tek-works) and I came up with. Now here are some crazy stats on how the site did on it’s debut.
Day One of the Contest we had 44 online votes in the bar. No big deal. However the site worked flawlessly and people were impressed.
Day Two. This was the Pro Category. My little speech at the bar to explain how voting worked was “Just like any other system” get your friends to go to the site, listen to all the songs, and vote.
7,399 Total Page Views. Over 600 Unique IP’s. (that is people typing in www.bartonvilleidol.com) and 900 people voted. We had votes from all over the Country, and abroad.
Day Three: 6,861 Total Page Views Over 500 Unique IP’s and again Over 900 people voted from all over the country.
Currently we have trasfered over 9 GIG of bandwidth. HOI News did a story on the web site last night at the 5:00PM “Connection” Segmant.
Today with no Contestants to vote for we have taken over 600 page views, and 100 unique IP’s. It’s only 9:30 AM
About the only thing Richard and I can say about this is two words….”Corporate Sponsors? I hope the site continues go well. It has been a lot of fun working on it. Hell, my site has been up for a year, and never has it come close to these numbers.
