It Went Out With Class

After once being a classy place to hang out, and stay. The Grandview Hotel’s last days were spent providing kids, and adults a like a thrill once again. It also raised money for charity at same time.

PEORIA - A roar of applause rang through Junction City on Sunday as a Caterpillar Inc. excavator driven by Mayor Jim Ardis took the long-awaited first swing at the notorious Grandview Hotel.

“It’s a big day in the history of our neighborhood,” said a smiling Carol Long, president of the North Prospect Area Neighborhood Association.

Hundreds of people crowded around the dilapidated hotel to watch as a wrecking crew let donors and prominent Peoria figures take a turn at knocking the building down.

Through the events the Khazzams raised more than $50,000 that they plan to give to four Peoria area charities including Habitat for Humanity, Heart of Illinois Down Syndrome Association, the Dunlap Eagle Special Athletes, and Southside Office of Concern for the Homeless…read the rest of the story

My Thoughts: I’m glad to see the damn thing torn down. It was like a huge weight being lifted off the neighborhoods shoulder. There were some who said kicking out the homeless and the crack heads were wrong, but what a great deal for Peoria, if Junction City can re-bound and be the great place to shop as it once was.
