Anti-crime forum doesn’t make the grade

September 13th, 2006

I just got done watching the simulcast of the Anti-Crime Forum. I am not impressed, and I don’t think much of the community will be either.

LeVetta Rica was really the only one asking the one question that will never get answered: When are we going to feel safe in some of our neighborhoods again? And why when we call the police, no one ever really get’s in that serious of trouble where they won’t be out of jail hours later? Or even arrested at all?

The Mayor almost sounded like LOVE will cure all of our crime issues. And Coucilman Turner, I have a question for you: If Alchohol and Drugs are a major factor in crime? Then why are you passing out Liquor Lisences to every Tom Dick and Harry that applies for one. Three new ones are going up across the street from my house. Yea, that will help fight crime. Oh and it’s package liquor to, they can just carry it out of the place.

Kevin Lyons almost sounded like he was on some moral high ground about birth control. But he did point out that nobody trusts him, or the police for that matter. Probably one of the more honest statements tonight.

Meanwhile, nobody had any real substative answers and did a song and dance on most of the questions. I really think this was just an attempt to blow smoke up our ass and try and convince Peoria that they are concerned.

This city has some big problems and it’s going to take big people to solve them. Playing politics on T.V is not going to solve anything.

I am eager to read some of the reactions tonight. Thoughts? (if you saw the telecast)
