Officer indicted in boat death

August 16th, 2006

Troy Parker, 35, was indicted on three counts of reckless homicide and four counts of aggravated operating a watercraft under the influence of alcohol. He faces reckless homicide charges for allegedly operating a boat under the influence of alcohol and crashing into a barge two months ago.

Parker was arrested late Tuesday afternoon at Peoria Police Headquarters by officers of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and an investigator with the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office….rest of story

His bond was set at $100,000, though he later posted the required $10,000 bail and was released from the Peoria County Jail. If convicted, he could face prison time and large fines.

Parker, a five-year veteran of the department, is now on unpaid leave. Prior to the indictments, he was on paid leave.

Mr. Parker should be very thankful the bond was set so low. Three counts of Reckless Homicide and he only recieved a $100,000 dollar bond? Is that how much a life is worth? You would’ve thought Mr. Parker would check himself into some kind of rehab for drugs and alcohol to at least show he wants to change his life. I have heard no reports of him trying to get help. Of course they do have those programs in Prison.

Meanwhile, Tammy is still fighting, but gets a little better each week. We are certainly proud of her, and pray that she comes out of this tradgedy.
